Subnautica The Basic Supplies And How To Get Them (2024)

Subnautica encourages players to explore its map and craft whatever they need to survive on Planet 4546B. From vehicles to an underwater base, you can make tons of things while trying to figure out exactly what is going on there.

However, everyone has to start somewhere, and before you can go out there and fight creatures or uncover Subnautica’s secrets, you’ll have to master the basics first. So here you have a list of the basics supplies you’ll need when starting out and where to find them.

Titanium

This one is a raw material that you’ll use a lot while crafting Alterra technology like tools, vehicles, equipment, and Seabase modules. Because it is one of the materials you’ll find in the game’s earliest moments, Titanium is very common.

You can get Titanium by:

  • Finding a Limestone Outcrop: a very common harvesting node found on the seabed and walls of many Biomes. Keep in mind there’s a 50% chance you’ll get Titanium from this node (the other 50% goes to Copper Ore). Crafting it from metal savage: this one is a raw material you’ll find scattered all over the seabed. They’re usually in biomes that are close to the Aurora. You’ll need a fabricator to craft Titanium from this raw material. Using the blueprint that is already pre-installed in your PDA Finding Titanium’s large resource deposit in the Lost River Finding Titanium’s single pure deposits in the Inactive Lava Zone

Fish

This being a game that takes place underwater, it is not a big surprise that one of your primary resources are, well, fish. You can use fish for food and water, either by cooking them or curating their meat. You can also feed fishes to some creatures to get them on your side.

While fishes are everywhere, you’ll need to craft some equipment first in order to catch them, like Fins, a Seaglide, or a Grav Trap. There are up to 14 different fish species in the game, and each one has a different amount of food or water they can provide.

Copper Ore

Like the other raw materials, Copper Ore is used in crafting. You have a 50% chance of obtaining Copper Ore when breaking apart Limestone Outcrops and a 90% chance when breaking apart Barnacles. You’ll also be able to find this material in large resource deposits, especially in areas like the Blood Kelp Trench and Mushroom Forests.

This raw material can be found all over the seabed, especially in biomes that are close to the Aurora. You can use Metal Savage for crafting or to tame Stalkers temporarily.

There are different ways you can obtain this material, for example:

  • By feeding a Peeper to a Stalker, the creature will then bring the player pieces of Metal Savage. However, it will eventually turn hostile again and attack the player. You can find this material in Crash Zone and Kelp Forest biomes, but going there can be quite an adventure, especially for new players as those biomes are filled with predators.

Quartz

This white cluster of crystals is a raw material you can use for crafting. You’ll find them in large resource deposits, especially in biomes like the Lost River, Grand Reef, Dunes, and Crag Field. If you have a hard time finding this material, just wait until night as the Quartz is illuminated and easier to spot.

Limestone Outcrops

This one is a Harvesting Node, which means that players can break down Limestone Outcrops to gather different raw materials. While this node is very common, it only drops Titanium and Copper Ore.

You’ll find this basic supply in the following biomes:

  • Crag Field Crash Zone Crash Zone Mesas Dunes Dunes Caves Grand Reef Grassy Plateaus Grassy Plateaus Caves Kelp Forest Kelp Forest Caves Lost River Mushroom Forest Safe Shallows Safe Shallows Caves Sea Treader’s Path Sea Treader’s Tunnel Caves Sparse Reef Underwater Islands

Creepvine Seed Cluster

This shiny raw material is a supply you can harvest from the Creepvines located at the Kelp Forest. Thanks to their bioluminescent property, Creepvine Seed Clusters are ideal for illuminating your seabase, especially when it is early on in the game and you don’t have the blueprints for items like Light Sticks, Floodlights, or Spotlights.

This material has other uses, as the Creepvine Seed Clusters are needed for crafting Lubricant and Silicone Rubber. Finally, you can use them in the Bioreactor to produce 50 energy in about 120 seconds.

Acid Mushroom

These purple mushrooms are part of the flora you’ll encounterthroughout your adventure in Subnautica. This type of mushroom is considered a raw material because you can use them to manufacture Batteries.

You have to be careful when gathering this material, as it has a self-defense mechanism that causes the mushroom to release spores into the water that harm you, nearby flora and fauna, and even structures and vehicles. Keep in mind that these spores will only be released when you kill the Acid Mushroom with a survival knife and not when you pick it by hand.

Salt Deposit

This raw material is pivotal for your survival as it’s used for crafting cured food and disinfected water. You’ll find this material in many biomes, but especially at the Mountain Island, the Crash Zone, the Mushroom Forest, Grassy Plateaus, and the Bulb Zone. Just keep an eye out for small white crystals that look like cubes.

There are other ways to obtain salt deposits, such as harvesting them from The Purple Pinecone (which you can find in the Northwestern Mushroom Forest) or by desalination when using the Water Filtration Machine.

Coral Tube Sample

You’ll obtain this raw material from two sources, the Giant Coral Tube orthe Coral Shell Plate. You can harvest Giant Coral Tubes in biomes like the Safe Shallows, the Crash Zone, and the Kelp Forest. However, Coral Shell Plates need to be hit with a surviving knife to harvest Coral Tube Sample. You’ll find this in the following biomes:

  • Bulb Zone Grassy Plateaus Grassy Plateaus Caves Mountains Caves Mushroom Forest Caves Safe Shallows
